Germany needs “one or two more weeks” to approve Taurus long-range missiles for Ukraine – defense minister

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius assures the government needs one or two more weeks to approve the decision to transfer Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, cites Tagesschau.

The official commented on a possible decision to provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles at the Westphalian Peace Conference in Münster.

If it takes another week or two to make a decision, then it should be so… Germany should exercise a high level of caution, even if it is difficult for our Ukrainian friends to understand, the defence minister asserted.

Earlier this week, members of the German Bundestag wrote a letter to German Сhancellor Olaf Scholz and DM Boris Pistorius demanding that Ukraine be supplied with long-range Taurus missiles.

Ukraine's FM Dmytro Kuleba, is convinced that the supply of Taurus missiles from Germany to Ukraine is only a "matter of time".

The Bundestag also reported that Scholz is the only person who blocks the supply of Taurus to Ukraine.

Taurus is a German analog of the British Storm Shadow missiles, which Ukrainian troops already successfully use. The missile is considered an effective weapon against protected targets such as command bunkers or ammunition depots.

Ukraine will easily use these missiles, which allow strikes on Russian military infrastructure in the occupied territory at long distances.

On May 27, Ukraine appealed to Germany with an official request, in which it asked to provide it with Taurus cruise long-range missiles. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke on this topic with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

German politicians are gradually changing their point of view regarding the transfer of Taurus to Ukraine.
