EU keeps on pressure on Russia with another extension of sanctions

The Council of the European Union decided to extend the sanctions against Russia for another six months, Rubryka reports, referring to the Council of the EU press service.

"The Council decided today to prolong the restrictive measures targeting those responsible for undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine for another six months, until 15 March 2024," the statement said.

The sanctions apply to more than 1,800 individuals and companies, including a ban on entry into the EU, an asset freeze, and a ban on providing funds.

As part of the review of sanctions, the council also decided to remove four individuals from the list.

"The EU will continue to provide strong financial, economic, humanitarian, military, and diplomatic support to Ukraine and its people for as long as it takes," the statement said.

Earlier, the EU High Representative Josep Borrell wrote in his blog that Western sanctions sufficiently affect the economic, industrial, and technological potential of the Russian Federation, and accusations that they do not work are not true.

As Rubryka wrote, the content of the last of the 11 sanctions packages against Russia was made public by the EU on June 23, 2023.
