Germany increases emergency aid to Ukraine by €20 mln – FM

Germany will boost Ukraine's humanitarian support by €20 million to prepare its energy system for long-feared Russian shelling in winter.

German FM Annalena Baerbock reported it at a joint briefing with Ukrainian FM Dmytro Kuleba in Kyiv.

We support Ukraine in its preparation for winter and once again increase emergency humanitarian aid by €20 million, which means that this year alone our humanitarian aid has reached €380 million. We support Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression economically, weapon-wise, and humanitarianly. With €22 billion, Germany is Ukraine's second donor in the world, she said.

Baerbock expressed her belief that there were fewer Russian attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure in summer, as Russia was storing missiles for this year's winter, "a time when it will be more painful."

Germany would build a wind power plant in the Chornobyl exclusion zone, she said.

Baerbock visited a power station 50 kilometers from Kyiv on Monday, September 11, as part of her working visit to Ukraine and called for an increase in the share of renewable energy.

Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov briefed the German representative on the government's efforts to secure the country's energy supply before the approaching winter.
