Russian forces install frames on its aircraft to resist Ukrainian drone attacks
Russian forces have begun installing new frame covers over the aircraft to protect it from Ukrainian drone attacks.
The new "know-how" invention follows the latest attack on Russian airports, particularly on missile carriers, as seen in photos by Russia's propagandist Fighterbomber.
The cover was installed in a few days, which can be used for almost all types of tactical aircraft and some types of helicopters.
If necessary, tarpaulin curtains integrated with fireproof substances can be pulled to the front and back of the cover.
Russian military spent $102,000 to install one cover. Most likely, such protection without additional coverage will not be able to stop drones with a high-explosive warhead.
The resource says that this decision is not official and that the operation of such protective structures without a corresponding decision in Moscow could lead to legal liability.
Previously, we reported how Russian forces are trying to protect Tu-95 strategic bombers with car tires at the Engels airfield in the Saratov region.
The aircraft carries deathly hypersonic missiles used to attack Ukrainian civilians. However, they are frequently prone to drone attacks.
It is, however, unknown whether such protection will be effective given the flammability of tires and the difficulty of extinguishing them.
It is also unknown whether such cover will protect the aircraft's fuselage from debris, given that after installing the tires, a large area of the fuselage remains uncovered.
On the night of August 30, explosions occurred in several regions of Russia: Pskov, Bryansk, Kaluga, Orel, Ryazan, Tula, and Moscow regions. Russian forces were shocked by the fireworks display at the Pskov military airfield, which destroyed several planes at once.
Later, Ukraine's Intelligence confirmed that four Russian Il-76 aircraft were destroyed at a military airfield in the Russian city of Pskov overnight on August 30.
