Solutions to win: Lviv students learn to fly drones in schools

In schools in Lviv, students have started learning how to fly drones as part of an updated program for the "Defense of Ukraine" subject.

The city's Mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, announced this.

What is the problem?

Due to the Russian Federation's all–out war against Ukraine, it's necessary to teach the "Defense of Ukraine" course in Ukrainian schools.

What is the solution?

Since September, schools in various regions of Ukraine have launched a pilot project of the updated discipline "Defense of Ukraine." In particular, it provides for the training of teachers who will teach children to fly drones.

The Ministry wants to update the practical component of the discipline so that schoolchildren acquire skills "necessary for life in today's realities." Yes, the number of practical classes will be increased, and preparation for mastering the basic technologies currently used by defenders of Ukraine will be added.

The program includes:

• first aid skills,
• local orientation,
• mine safety knowledge,
• UAV control skills.

The Ministry of Education and Culture notes that this is "what is in demand today from both male and female students," the skills themselves are "not only about defense needs."

"Knowledge of mine safety will help to save life and health, to behave correctly in case of detection of explosive objects. UAV control skills are a competitive advantage; they are used by videographers, surveyors, archaeologists, and many other specialists in professional activities," the ministry notes.

How does it work?

In Lviv schools, children began to be taught to fly UAVs. This is part of the updated program of the "Defense of Ukraine" subject.

Sadovyi showed photos of the process of such training in one of the Lviv schools– and right now, this format is just an experiment. In the future, it'll be implemented in all schools.

"I believe that today's schoolchildren will no longer be forced to fight with evil forces. But as experience shows, it is better to be ready," Sadovyi emphasized.

It should be noted that a national and patriotic education center was opened in Lviv in Sykhiv, where schoolchildren from many educational institutions of the military affairs and pre-medical care district will be taught.

The first one was opened in the Halytsky district of the city. In total, 12 such centers will be set up in the Lviv community.
