Poland closes largest Ukrainian refugee reception center

Poland has closed its largest reception center for Ukrainian refugees in Nadarzyn, about 30 km from Warsaw.

The Financial Times reported this.

According to the press secretary of the Mazovian region, the center was intended to be temporary. Its closure is justified by the fact that "the number of refugees arriving in the region from Ukraine is extremely small."

According to the publication, up to 9,000 Ukrainian refugees were housed in the center. The last 300 people who lived there were transferred to other centers.

It is worth noting that since the beginning of the war, Poland became one of the first countries to accept Ukrainian refugees. In particular, in many cities of the country, including the capital, centers were opened for Ukrainians, where they could spend the night getting food and necessary things.

Some of the refugees remained to live in such centers permanently, and some – after some time, went to other European countries.

For reference:

When Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Polish charities, companies, and government organizations moved quickly to help the refugees coming into Poland. Even though the violence still continues, more and more refugees keep coming to Poland, frightened and in need of support after making a dangerous trip across the country.

About 1.5 million refugees from Ukraine have registered for temporary protection in Poland and were welcomed with open arms.
