Ukrainian Railways launches online railcars ordering service for people with disabilities

Ukrainian Railways company is launching a new online service for ordering special railcars for people with disabilities.

Ukrainian society has a set of restrictions for different groups in terms of barrier-free access to infrastructure, transportation, employment, education, public information, services provided by the state and businesses, etc.

The barrier-free concept is the philosophy of a society without restrictions. It is about the internal readiness to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable.

Ukrainian Railways launches a new online service for ordering special railcars for people with disabilities.

How does it work?

An application for an inclusive car must be submitted through the online service at least three days before the planned trip date. Within 24 hours, the company's operators will process the application and contact the customer.

Ukrainian Railways reminds that the company currently has 50 cars with lifts or ramps in its fleet, 37 of which are new-generation railcars built over the past year. All of these railcars have conditions for inclusive use, including a restroom and a compartment equipped for the needs of people with disabilities.

Such compartments have sleeping sofas that can change the angle of inclination and fix the body, a remote control for adjusting the lighting, a button for contacting the conductor, and a device for loudspeaker communication with him.

At the end of July 2023, Ukrainian Railways signed a memorandum of cooperation in creating an accessible environment for all passengers with the largest public organizations that protect the rights of people with disabilities and promote the idea of barrier-free access.
