UN development program donates 60 generators to hospitals and social welfare institutions in Chernivtsi

Benefactors delivered 60 generators to hospitals and social welfare institutions in the western Chernivtsi region.

What is the problem?

Ukraine's energy infrastructure suffered significant damage from a series of large-scale Russian missile attacks during the fall and spring of 2022 and 2023. According to Economy Minister Herman Halushchenko, the Russians struck half of the entire energy system, including the generation and transmission systems.

However, the Russian army will not stop at the damage already caused. According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia uses various types of intelligence to identify critical infrastructure facilities that generally affect Ukraine's energy system. The coming winter season is expected to be filled with massive Russian attacks.

What is the solution?

Ukraine needs alternative power sources after last year's Russian attacks on energy infrastructure facilities. The received generators will help prepare for future attacks and provide institutions of the region with backup sources of power supply for a stable passage of the autumn-winter period.

How does it work?

The first deputy head of Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration, Aliona Atamaniuk, handed over the generators. The equipment arrived with the financial support of the United Nations Development Program in cooperation with the Department of Redevelopment.

"Healthcare and social protection institutions received 60 generators with a 3 to 12 kW capacity. The equipment came with the financial support of the United Nations Development Program, in cooperation with the Department of Regional Development of the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration," the statement reads.

On August 17, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, held a selector meeting to discuss winter preparations.

According to the conclusions of British intelligence, most likely, this winter, Russia's attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine will continue. However, Ukraine proved its ability to go through a difficult period.
