Russian forces trying to find new attack strategies to bypass Ukraine’s air defense systems – air force

The Russian military is trying to find new tactics for attacks on Ukraine to bypass air defense systems. 

Rubryka reports, citing the spokesperson of the Defense Forces of the South, Natalia Humeniuk, and the spokesperson of the Air Force, Yurii Ihnat, that the Russian occupiers launched Kalibr missiles from the Sea of Azov for the first time.

On the night of August 25, the Russian invaders attacked the south of Ukraine, particularly the Odesa region. One of Russia's goals was the destruction of Ukraine's port infrastructure.

Humeniuk noted that two waves of Russian attacks occurred in the southern regions at night. At first, the Russians used tactical aviation, firing two Kh-35 missiles from Su-35 fighter jets in the direction of one of the ports of the Odesa region. At the same time, the air defense forces downed rockets.

A few hours later, the Russian forces attacked the Odesa region with two Kalibr missiles from a missile carrier in the Sea of Azov. The Ukrainian military also downed them.

Humeniuk noted that such an attack shows that the Russians are trying to find new tactics and directions for missiles to bypass air defense systems. She added that due to the careful work of the Ukrainian Air Defense Forces, there were no casualties or damage.

Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat added that the occupiers used tactical aviation both along the demarcation line and in the southern regions. According to him, the two guided air missiles first headed towards the Mykolaiv region and then returned to Odesa.

He noted that the launch of Kalibr missiles from the Sea of Azov was also hidden under aviation activity.

"These rockets also headed towards the southern regions. Surprisingly, one Shahed this time was launched from the Primorsk-Akhtarsk region," he said.

At the same time, he noted that the emphasis should not be placed on the launch of Kalibr rockets from the Sea of Azov since it does not matter to the invaders where to launch this type of weapon.

Night air attack on Ukraine

That night, the Russians attacked the Odesa region twice with rockets. All of them were knocked down, and there are no reports of damage.

Air defense forces destroyed a missile and a drone in the Dnipropetrovsk region, but the debris damaged a private house and a gas pipeline.

Ukrainian fighters downed four rockets within the Odesa region and one Shahed drone in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
