Solutions from Ukraine: Kyiv Digital app provides offline access to updated map of shelters
The map of shelters has been updated in the capital. The map is available on the portal https://gis.kyivcity.gov.ua/shelter/ and in the Kyiv Digital application.
The Department of Municipal Security reports this.
What is the problem?
As previously reported by Rubryka, back in mid-May, in connection with numerous complaints from Kyiv residents about closed shelters, the Kyiv officials planned to check and open all bomb shelters.
However, on June 1, Russia once again attacked Kyiv with ten Iskander missiles. Three people, including a 9–year–old child, sadly lost their lives in the enemy attack due to not having enough time to take cover in a shelter.
This tragedy illustrated the problem of shelter availability, which is relevant not only for Kyiv.
What is the solution?
The Kyiv Digital app gives you access to the map of shelters even offline when you don't have Internet.
To take advantage of the service offline, open the app with an Internet connection. The maps will download in the background. In your profile settings, check out the "Maps" section to see how much space the maps take up on your device, and remove them if desired.
How does this solution work?
Specialists of the Department of Municipal Security and the Main Information and Computing Center Communal Enterprise update the information on the designated resources every week. At the same time, according to the Department, the map of shelters based on the Google Maps platform, created in 2022, will not be updated from August 17, 2023.
To see the map in the application, you need to click "More services" and select the appropriate item in the "Security" section.
In addition, you can leave a review about the shelter in the application – report if the shelter has inadequate conditions or is closed.
To use the feedback form, click on the information card "Notify the status of the shelter." The responsible Department will immediately receive this information and will be able to correct the situation.
Kyiv Digital can be downloaded on IOS and Android smartphones.
Also, a chatbot was launched for residents of the capital, which allows you to assess the condition of shelters independently. The "Open Shelter" chatbot is available via the link.
