Borrell: "Putin was wrong in almost everything" when invading Ukraine
EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell believes Russia is an "economic dwarf" and a "gas station."
Borrell said this in an interview with El Pais.
According to the representative of the EU, Putin, having decided to launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, "was wrong in almost everything" – in particular, in the ability to control the countries of the European Community due to energy dependence.
"Putin is going to sacrifice his people and his army for his personal and political survival, and that is why it is so difficult to negotiate peace," Borrell said.
Borrell positively assesses the negotiations regarding the Ukrainian Peace Formula, which took place in Saudi Arabia, noting China's participation in them.
"Although China will never say directly that it is reducing its support for Russia or contributing to its clear defeat, Beijing is not at all satisfied with the current situation. At the very least, with references to nuclear weapons," the European diplomat said.
Commenting on the EU policy towards China, Borrell noted that comparing Beijing and Moscow is impossible.
"China is a real geopolitical actor, while the Russian Federation is an economic dwarf, a gas station whose owner has an atomic bomb," said a senior EU representative.
