Ukrainian Air Force downs 16 of 28 Russian missiles in early morning attack
On Tuesday morning, August 15, Russian invaders attacked Ukrainian regions with 28 air and sea-based missiles.
The Air Defense Forces destroyed 16 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles, Rubryka reports. The Air Force said that they recorded the launches of at least 28 cruise missiles of various types:
- Four Kh-22 cruise missiles from six Tu-22M3 long-range jets (airfields based in Soltsy, Shaykovka);
- 20 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles from 11 strategic aviation aircraft (Engels, Olenegorsk airfields);
- Four Kalibr cruise missiles from a frigate from the Black Sea (Yalta area).
At that time, an air raid alert was announced throughout the territory of Ukraine. The anti-aircraft defense was activated in many regions:
- anti-aircraft missile units,
- mobile fire groups,
- fighter aircraft,
- direct cover units.
During the air defense operation, the Air Force, along with other Defense Forces units, successfully neutralized and destroyed 16 Kalibr Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles.
The Air Force recorded eight launches of Russian S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles in the central Dnipropetrovsk and southeastern Zaporizhzhia regions.
What we know about Russian missile attack on Ukraine
On Tuesday night, August 15, the Russian forces launched a massive attack with cruise missiles from Tu-95MS bombers from the Caspian Sea area: first, they attacked the central city of Dnipro, and closer to five in the morning, a series of explosions were heard in the west of Ukraine.
The Russian forces attacked western Lviv, Khmelnytskyi, Lutsk, and Kolomyia. In Lutsk, during a massive rocket attack, the Russian forces hit an industrial enterprise, killing three people. Explosions rang out in Lviv during a large-scale air raid. The Russian invaders hit residential buildings and the yard of a kindergarten.
On the morning of August 15, the Russian occupiers launched a rocket attack on the Cherkasy region, causing destruction and leaving part of the city of Smila without a water supply. Russian rockets also hit an enterprise and a sports facility in Dnipro, leading to casualties.
