Sweden approves $300 mln military assistance package for Ukraine

Sweden plans a new military support package to Ukraine worth $314 million, consisting mainly of ammunition and spare parts to previously delivered weapon systems, Defense Minister Pal Jonson said on Tuesday.

The new package will be Sweden's 13th to Ukraine since the start of the war, taking the total value of the Nordic country's aid to $20 billion.

We have to prepare ourselves for the fact this could be a long-lasting war and we also have a long-term perspective so that we can support those platforms that we are sending to Ukraine in a lasting manner, Jonson told a news conference.

The Swedish company Satcube is planning to transfer its own satellite Internet terminals to Ukraine, which can then be used in the de-occupied territories where mobile and land-based networks suspended operations.

The state has presented the strategy for Ukraine's recovery for 2023-2027, which provides $600 million to be allocated to initiatives aimed to restore the country.

As Ukraine's counteroffensive is roaming daily, the allies prepare for long-term support.

Germany plans to provide Ukraine with €5 billion in annual military aid until 2027, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said on Aug. 14, Forbes Ukraine reports.

The US has announced a $200 million military aid package for Ukraine, including munitions for Patriot air defense systems and HIMARS, as well as other support, the Pentagon says.

The Greek arms production company Hellenic Defense Systems is negotiating with international arms manufacturers to participate in the 155-mm ammunition production program to support Ukraine and replenish EU stocks.

To help Ukraine counter Russian aggression, the EU leaders approved the plan to provide Ukraine with 1 million artillery ammunition over the next 12 months. The member states have already sent over 200,000 shells to boost Ukraine's defense capabilities.

The largest German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall purchased 50 Leopard 1 tanks from the Belgian company OIP Land Systems to modernize them and transfer some of them to the Ukrainian armed forces.
