Russian attack on Odesa damages over 200 buildings and seven educational institutions

Russian missile and drone attack on southern Odesa damaged 203 buildings, according to the latest data from the city council.

Seven educational institutions, including a cultural heritage site, and four medical facilities, are among the affected buildings, local authorities report.

Communal service workers recorded the destruction of 1481 windows. The city has deployed tape distribution points to cover window gaps. The buildings have damaged facades, doors, interiors, and roofs.

Russia attacked Odesa three times during the night, launching 15 Shahed drones and eight Kalibr cruise missiles. The Air Force reported that all the aerial targets were shot down.

The attack and its aftermath caused a significant damange to a hypermarket and a dormitory of one of the educational institutions. There are affected apartment buildings, retail facilities, educational institutions, office space and cars, authorities said

The Fozzy hypermarket was damaged by debris from downed missiles. The owner company reported that it was destroyed completely. Three workers were injured and immediately received medical assistance.

Southern Odesa has suffered multiple Russian aerial raids after Moscow's withdrawal from the Black Sea grain deal, targeting critical port and grain infrastructure and disrupting the safe transportation of the goods.

The July strikes also damaged Odesa's historical center, which was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in January 2023.
