Ukraine and Britain begin negotiations on security guarantees – Head of President’s Office Yermak

Today, August 11, Ukraine started bilateral consultations on security guarantees with Great Britain. Similar discussions continue with the United States of America.

The head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, reported this on the air of Yedyni Novyny telethon.

"Indeed, after our American colleagues, we started (consultations. – ed.) with our friends, partners from Great Britain. This is a country that is one of our main and strategic partners that provides key help."

He noted that 13 countries have already joined the G7 declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine. At the same time, as he said, Ukraine has begun bilateral consultations regarding guarantees with the USA.

The head of the Office of the President noted that the current goal is to have the first bilateral agreements with countries that will provide security guarantees to Ukraine by the end of the year.

According to him, 13 partner countries of Ukraine (not counting the G7) have already joined the G7 Joint Declaration. Work is currently underway to develop relevant bilateral agreements between Ukraine and each of the guarantor countries.

As you know, the G7 countries at the NATO summit in Vilnius agreed on a framework document on security guarantees for Ukraine. The leaders disagreed on specific parameters of security guarantees, but their framework and specific bilateral agreements will be signed later.

It should be noted that Ukrainian officials expect Western countries to provide Ukraine with security guarantees. They are needed to avoid a repeated attack by Russia in the period after the end of the war and before Ukraine becomes a member of NATO.
