Ukraine to launch digital archives to ease access to documents
Ukraine's Ministry of Justice and the State Archival Service presented a pilot project, "e-Archive." aimed at creating digital archives for easy access to personal papers.
The documents and state electronic information resources will be stored in electronic archives. This will simplify the process of finding all the necessary information in a few clicks and not store a bunch of papers offline.
We have created all conditions for archival documents to be recorded and stored in a digitalized form. In just a few clicks one can find the necessary archival information, and not break through the stacks of paper documents. Ukrainian archives are becoming even more accessible, says Deputy Minister for Digital Development Serhii Orlov said during the presentation.
Ukraine's Ministry of Justice transfers about 1200 stacks of papers to the archive every year, which is 240,000 sheets of A4 format. For electronic documents to be stored for more than ten years, certified paper copies are also made.
The pilot project was implemented by the Ministry of Justice together with the State Archival Service, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, and the EU project Pravo-Justice.
The Head of the State Archival Service Anatoliy Khromov stressed the project "e-Archive" will allow to carry out work on archiving electronic documents. At the same time, the authorities will create appropriate conditions for the permanent storage and use of electronic documents. After further scaling, real electronic archives will work in Ukraine.
In the nearest future, Khromov says, the project will correspond with all authorities and subsequently to other organizations.
