Germany confirms supply of Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine
The German Ministry of Defense confirmed the transfer of additional Leopard-1.
Rubryka reports, referring to DW, that about 25 tanks and more will be delivered.
According to information from sources, 25 Leopard-1 tanks, five armored repair and evacuation vehicles, and two training tanks will be sent to Ukraine.
On August 7, information appeared about an "unnamed company" that purchased 50 Leopard 1 tanks from the OIP Land Systems company owned by Freddy Versluys. The latter purchased them about ten years ago when the Belgian government was optimizing costs in the Armed Forces.
Later it became known that the buyer was the Rheinmetall. The largest German manufacturer purchased 50 Leopard 1 tanks from the Belgian company OIP Land Systems to modernize them and transfer part of them to the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Rubryka reported that the Rheinmetall would produce German tanks and infantry fighting vehicles at a joint venture with Ukrainian arms manufacturer Ukroboronprom. The armaments company also plans to open tank repair centers in Ukraine in the fall, for which it is already training specialists.
