Kyiv authorities in the Bucha settlement installed two heart-shaped containers to recycle PET bottle caps.

All funds from the recycling will be directed to Ukrainian families with severely ill children who require strong medical attention.

Nowadays, 22% of plastic waste is disposed of incorrectly, ending up in landfills, burnt in open spaces, or leaking into the environment, according to the UN data.

Ecologists estimate that since 1950, 4.9 million tonnes of plastic have accumulated in landfills and nature. The waste pollutes the entire planet drastically. The UN study says people consume microplastics with food and water; its particles have even been found in blood and breast milk.

The organization reports that each day plastic waste the size of 2,000 garbage trucks gets into the planet's oceans, rivers, and lakes.

Plastic recycling is a great solution to get rid of plastic waste and process it into useful products.

That's why two more heart-shaped eco-installations for collecting PET bottle caps have been unveiled in the Bucha community in the Kyiv region.

How does it work?

They can be found in the Sklozavod neighborhood and the war-torn town of Vorzel.

Anyone can join: just collect plastic lids and fill them with eco-hearts, which will then be recycled. The company will use the proceeds from the recycling to help families with seriously ill children, authorities said.

Despite the raging war, Ukraine keeps joining ecological initiatives to protect the world's environment. For example, since the outset, Odesa-based eco-volunteers from the City of the Future NGO have been collecting plastic lids for an ambulance to donate to the army.
