Zelensky meets with Republican US presidential candidate Chris Christie in Kyiv

On August 4, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, met with the US presidential candidate from the Republican Party, Christopher Christie, who arrived on a visit to Ukraine.

"I would also like to thank you and your colleagues, particularly Congress, sincerely. We are grateful for the bipartisan support that is extremely important to us. We are very grateful to the President of the United States, Joe Biden, and his administration," the president said.

 

 

Zelensky emphasized that it is essential that the USA, all Americans, are on the side of truth and democracy and are convinced of Ukraine's victory.

It is noted that the president stressed the importance of further strengthening assistance from partners for reliable protection against Russian missile terror and the successful liberation of temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories.

"The USA is the leader; they provide us with the greatest support on the battlefield – for our Armed Forces. And, of course, in the financial sector, which is also powerful support," Zelensky noted.

Christopher Christie said he wanted to see what was happening in Ukraine with his own eyes and share the information he received with the American society, which highly supports Ukraine.

Christopher James (Chris) Christie is an American politician; during 2010-2018, he was the governor of the state of New Jersey. He became the first Republican to win the election in this state in 12 years.

CNN wrote that the former governor of the state of New Jersey also visited Moschun and Bucha in the Kyiv region.

He told the journalists who accompanied him that he came to Ukraine because he wanted Americans to see the same thing as he did so that their determination to support Ukraine would remain.

He emphasized that US support is necessary to counter the influence of adversaries like China and Russia. Earlier, Christie criticized former US President Donald Trump for refusing to say directly whether Ukraine should win the war against Russia.

It should be noted that the US State Department explained that the United States, in negotiations with Ukraine on long-term obligations in the field of security, will focus on strengthening the armed forces for defense and deterring Russian aggression, as well as on the transparency of institutions, the effectiveness of governance and the implementation of reforms.

Earlier, the former vice president of the USA and Donald Trump's competitor in the presidential elections, Mike Pence, made an unexpected visit to Ukraine. He met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

He also stated that the US should continue to provide military support to Ukraine, which repels full-scale Russian aggression.

"We must provide them (Ukrainians) with ammunition to repel the Russian invasion," the 63-year-old former congressman and governor of the state of Indiana emphasized in a conversation with media representatives.
