Solutions to win: First Ukrainian demining machine receives national license for mass production

The Ukrainian company that manufactures the machine that prepares the soil for demining has already received a certificate of conformity, which allows it to set up its production and use it for demining territories, the Ministry of Economy reports.

What is the problem?

More than a third of the agricultural land designated for priority demining was surveyed in Ukraine. According to the State Emergency Service, since the beginning of the large-scale military invasion of Russia of the territory of Ukraine, more than 411,000 explosive objects, including more than 3,000 aerial bombs, have been defused.

Today, there are 20 demining machines in Ukraine, three of which are in the northeastern Kharkiv region, and about 3,000 demining specialists. These capacities are not enough to speed up the clearance of the country's territory from mines and explosives. At every meeting with foreign partners, Ukraine raises the issue of supplying the necessary equipment, training of pyrotechnicians, and financial support for humanitarian demining.

What is the solution?

"The Kharkiv manufacturers' invention — the machine for preparing the soil for demining — has passed the relevant certification. The manufacturing company has already received a certificate of conformity and a declaration of conformity, which allows it to establish its production and use it for demining territories," the statement says.

How does it work?

The Ministry of Economy reports that the important advantages of domestic equipment over foreign demining machines are the simplicity of the design and the relatively low cost of production, maintenance, and repair.

At the same time, the machine makes it possible to effectively neutralize anti-personnel and detect anti-tank mines. Currently, manufacturers can produce two such machines per month.

"We are interested in not importing equipment but buying our own. That is why, of course, we support effective Ukrainian developments. The key task today is to scale up the production of domestic manufacturers," said the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Yulia Svyridenko.

According to her, machines such as those developed by the people of Kharkiv will be useful for the State Emergency Service, the State Special Transport Service, and private operators engaged in demining in Ukraine.
