A national record of Ukraine was set in the capital's Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital, which hosted the largest race of children who overcame serious diseases, Minister of Youth and Sports Vadym Hutzait reports.

What is the problem?

According to WHO, 300,000 children between birth and 19 are diagnosed with neoplasms yearly. About 1,000 new cases of oncological diseases in children are diagnosed in Ukraine every year. In 2020 alone, 1,442 oncology cases were detected in children under 14.

Caring people are trying to draw attention to the problems of children's cancer with the help of various actions and events. Amid a war, supporting those families who, together with their children and doctors, are fighting this insidious disease is essential.

What is the solution?

The Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv decided to hold the largest race of children who have overcome severe diseases.

How does it work?

"A national record has been set! The largest race of children who have overcome serious illnesses! Thirty-two little winners prove daily that we are a Nation of Winners," the minister emphasized.

What we know about Okhmatdyt

Okhmatdyt is the largest children's hospital in Ukraine. The facility is located in Kyiv and provides specialized, highly qualified medical care. According to the accreditation results in 2008, the hospital confirmed the higher category. Up to 18,000 children are treated annually in 620 hospital beds. Also, about 20,000 receive emergency care in the hospital's trauma center.

A bone marrow transplant was performed on a two-month-old child in the hospital for the first time in Ukraine.

As Rubryka reported, the Tabletochki charitable foundation, which cares for children with cancer, purchased a real-time PCR analysis system for the Molecular Diagnostics Department of the Reference Laboratory of the Ukrainian Reference Center of the Okhmatdyt Hospital for 1,216,000 hryvnias.
