Ukrainian forces strike Chonhar Bridge to disrupt logistical support for Russian forces in Kherson region
Ukrainian defenders continue to carry out targeted work, destroying the logistics of the Russian forces on the occupied left bank of the Kherson region.
The joint press center chief of the South Operational Command, Natalia Humeniuk, said on the air of the telethon the work of Ukrainian soldiers is primarily aimed at destroying the enemy's plans, not the infrastructure.
Damage to objects such as the Chonhar bridge on the border between the Kherson region and Crimea is done to reduce their traffic activity. At the same time, the Ukrainian military will also need these bridges in the future.
"The work was carried out meticulously, precisely, and accurately, and now the occupiers are again looking for new detours to supply their troops with ammunition, equipment, and replenishment," Humenyuk said. "On the left bank, the enemy is significantly lacking in ammunition and equipment due to our combat work."
The spokesperson said the Armed Forces established fire control over all the Russian transport and logistics routes. The only thing that can hold them back is the presence of the civilian population, which the Russians use by alternating cars with civilians.
"This confuses civilians because, trying to leave Crimea, not being able to use the Crimean bridge, they try to bypass the mainland and become hostages of this military equipment," Humeniuk explained.
What we know about the strikes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Chonhar Bridge
On July 29, the collaborator Volodymyr Saldo about the alleged repulse of the Ukrainian attack on the railway in Chonhar. He later admitted that the railway was damaged but was allegedly repaired.
Meanwhile, Telegram channels began to report kilometers of traffic jams on the way out of Crimea through Chonhar and published corresponding photos.
After some time, the Office of Strategic Communications of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the attack on the bridge in Chonhar, which connects the mainland territory of Ukraine with the occupied Crimea.
This is not the first attack by the Ukrainian military on the bridge. On June 22, the so-called head of the occupation administration of Kherson, Volodymyr Saldo, reported that explosions had occurred on the bridges between the Kherson region and Crimea, near Chonhar.
In a comment to Channel 24, Andrii Yusov, a representative of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence, said:
"The work is ongoing now, and it will be continued. This is the planned work of the Security Forces, the Defense Forces, the Resistance Movement, and the local population, which is waiting for the return of Ukrainian legal power in these territories. We can only comment on what will happen next."
Crimea is connected to the Kherson region by three checkpoints: two in the Armiansk district and one through Chonhar.
The bridge across the Chonhar Strait is an important logistical link for supplying the Russian grouping in the Zaporizhzhia region. However, it is not the only one because there is also a road through Armiansk, the distance there is only 80 km, and it is theoretically possible to reach it by Hymars.
Just as the Chonhar Bridge connects Crimea with mainland Ukraine, it is one of the ways by which the Russian forces can transfer weapons and occupiers.
