Ukraine's air defense downed 36 Russian missiles over the past day
Ukraine's air defense forces shot down 36 cruise missiles fired from Russia in the afternoon of July 26. During the attack, the Russians targeted the western Khmelnytskyi region with four hypersonic Kinzhal missiles.
Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Air Force, reports Ukrainian forces shot down three Kalibr cruise missiles and 33 Kh-101/Kh-555 missiles.
The debris of a downed missile fell in the settlements of the Khmelnytskyi district, damaging a car.
Notably, Ukrainian air defenses managed to shoot down Russian Kinzhal missiles only over the Kyiv region, thanks to the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system.
The missiles entered the airspace of Ukraine from the southeast and headed west of the country, constantly changing the direction of flight.
The Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat said that Russian missiles targeted Starokostiantyniv, Khmelnytskyi region, as there is a military airfield where Ukrainian Su-24M, or carriers of Storm Shadow cruise missiles, are based.
