Solutions to win: Ukraine unveils maritime drone at international exhibition in Türkiye

A new Ukrainian maritime drone, the MAGURA V5 model, was presented at the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2023) in Istanbul.

Rubryka reports, referring to the Industrial portal, that the V-type Maritime Autonomous Guard Unmanned Robotic Apparatus, or MAGURA for short, is a multi-purpose unmanned surface ship of the new generation developed by the Ukrainian state company SpetsTechnoExport.

The drone can perform various tasks, like observation, intelligence, patrol, search and rescue operations, mine action, fleet protection, and combat missions. The V5's hydrodynamic body and sleek profile allow it to move stealthily with excellent maneuverability.

"It's an affordable solution that can be easily launched from any remote location," the developers said. "The V5's unmanned control minimizes the need for human resources to perform missions, reducing potential mortality when operating in harsh environments." 

Declared characteristics are:

• Length: 5500 mm or 5.5 m;
• Width: 1500 mm, or 1.5 m;
• Height above the waterline: 500 mm;
• Cruising speed: 22 knots;
• Maximum speed: 42 knots;
• Range: 450 nautical miles (approximately 833 km);
• Payload 320 kg;
• Communication: mesh radio with an aerial repeater or satellite communication.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine already have more than 20 new models of Ukrainian drones. Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said this at a press conference: "How to implement anti-corruption policy in the defense sector during the war?"

"We gathered 82 Ukrainian manufacturers. They volunteered to do it, and we have already adopted more than 20 new drones, which today are successfully destroying Russian invaders and their equipment," the minister emphasized.

He recalled that on the initiative of the Ministry of Defense, a corresponding resolution was adopted, which simplified the deployment of Ukrainian drones. Reznikov added that before putting a new drone into service, it was necessary to wait for about two years, and now it is three weeks "if you have everything right and you guarantee the quality."

The minister called the resolution, which increased the share of profit on foreign components during the production of drones to 25%, another breakthrough.

"The third breakthrough was that we adopted a resolution that simplified and removed all fees for importing components for the development of drones," the minister said.

As reported by Rubryka, the Songs of Drones campaign started in Lithuania on July 19 and will last until August 24 to raise €300,000 for the purchase of 500 drones by Independence Day.
