What is the problem?
Some families with children with cancer, who were forced to leave abroad due to the full-scale invasion, are returning to Ukraine. Due to the increase in the number of patients in medical institutions, the need for drugs and tests, which the effectiveness of the treatment of children depends on, is also increasing.
What is the solution?
Everyone can donate a comfortable amount, and the collection partner — the ICU investment group — will supplement the basic cost of the tests.
How does it work?
In the photo is one-and-a-half-year-old Vlada, fighting a liver tumor with metastases. Like hundreds of other children with cancer, she undergoes many tests almost every day. Without this, recovery is impossible. On average, 150 tests are performed on each Okhmatdyt patient during treatment.
"Laboratory diagnostics allows the doctor to assess the patient's condition and prescribe effective treatment quickly. Especially when it comes to children, who often cannot tell what is bothering them," says Viktoria Yanovska, head of the Ukrainian Reference Center for Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics and Metrology. "The modern laboratory allows our doctors to quickly make a diagnosis, assess and monitor the child's condition, and constantly monitor the effectiveness of treatment. Most children from oncology hematology departments are tested every day."
The Tabletochki Foundation has been helping children fight cancer for 12 years and has opened a fundraiser where everyone can choose a package for 20, 40, 60, 100, 200, and 500 tests and pay a part of its cost. The fund's partner will supplement the central part of the financing.
For example, the total cost of the Risk Prevention package for 40 blood tests is 1,360 hryvnias. Of these, the benefactor contributes 290 hryvnias, and the ICU investment group adds the remaining amount – 1,070 hryvnias.
"Okhmatdyt treats the largest number of children with cancer in Ukraine. The most complex hematological oncological cases from all regions of Ukraine come here for diagnosis and treatment," says the director of the Tabletochki aid programs department, Yulia Nohovitsyn. "It depends on the availability of reagents whether a seriously ill child will receive proper therapy and whether cases of serious and life-threatening complications will be prevented. That is why it is critically important for us that the laboratories of Okhmatdyta function smoothly."
Background
The Tabletochki charity fund is the largest fund in Ukraine for children's oncology. It has been operating since 2011, assisting children and their families at every stage of cancer treatment. Over 7,000 families received targeted assistance during the foundation's operation. Currently, 500 children are under the care of the foundation every month. These are children with cancer who are being treated in Ukraine and those who were forced to go abroad for treatment.
ICU Group is an independent financial group providing brokerage, asset management, private equity services, venture capital, and fintech investments. The geography of the group's interests is developing markets. In Ukraine, ICU is the market leader in asset management and pension savings, and for more than ten years, it has been the largest broker in government bond trading. The founders of ICU are Makar Paseniuk and Kostiantyn Stetsenko.
As Rubryka reported, Tabletochki purchased laboratory equipment worth more than 1 million hryvnias for Okhmatdyt's laboratory.
Rubryka also reported that the Okhmatdyt Hospital plans to create the first specialized Center for rehabilitating children who suffered from the armed aggression of the Russian Federation.
