Russia has upgraded over a hundred Kh-22 missiles to target Odesa – AFU
Russia modernized over a hundred Kh-22 missiles into Kh-32 missiles, with which they bombarded Odesa on July 23.
Ukrinform reports, citing Nataliia Humeniuk, the joint press center chief at Ukraine's South Operational Command.
"Having a large stockpile of Kh-22 missiles in storage, they are trying to improve them since, until this moment, we have seen their destruction in the air, " she said. "It is clear that they have used a rather large prepared potential since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. They were preparing for this process, unlike Ukraine. They were building up the potential deliberately, increasing the number by their strategic plans, and now, as far as I know, we are talking about more than a hundred such missiles," she said, answering a question about the number of Kh-32 missiles that were upgraded from the Kh-22.
As Rubryka reported, on the night of July 23, Russian troops carried out a massive attack on the territory of Ukraine's southern city of Odesa and the region.
The Russian invaders fired 19 missiles of various types. The blow fell on the historic center of Odesa, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. As a result of the attack, 25 architectural monuments were damaged, including the Transfiguration Cathedral.
The Kh-22 Burya missile is a long-range Soviet supersonic cruise missile. It was created to destroy aircraft carriers and strike groups, but in 2022-2023, the Kh-22 became a tool for numerous war crimes.
On January 14 this year, a Kh-22 missile fired from a Russian Tu-22M3 bomber hit a residential building in Dnipro.
