RePower Ukraine Fund donates solar power station to hospital in war-battered Kharkiv

A solar power plant with batteries was installed in Kharkiv City Clinical Multidisciplinary Hospital No. 17.

What is the problem?

Since October 10 of last year, the Russian army has been constantly attacking the country's energy structure with missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Because of this, thousands of Ukrainians are periodically forced to live without electricity, water, and heating.

"Last winter, the Kharkiv region was one of the regions most vulnerable to power outages," the Ministry of Health said.

What is the solution?

In Ukraine's northern city of Kharkiv, which is close to the front line, hospital No. 17 was equipped with a solar power plant with batteries with the support of a German fund.

How does it work?

The equipment can store energy and provide the facility with emergency power during power outages. The solar station system consists of solar panels and two Fronius inverters with a total capacity of 52 kW.

"The installation of a solar station will allow the medical facility to be more stable in emergency power outages, which are possible during the next Russian energy terrorism on the eve of winter," the ministry notes.

Thanks to such equipment, the hospital will be able to use solar energy as a power source and store it. The medical facility will be able to significantly save electricity costs.

The project was implemented with the support of German partners, in particular, the project donor BayWa r.e. Solar Distribution / PH, the German Association of Solar Energy (BSW), the Association of Solar Energy of Ukraine, and the European Association of Solar Energy (SolarPower Europe).

The Ministry of Health expresses gratitude to partners for the energy modernization of Ukrainian hospitals in the regions most affected by the war. 

"Such solar panels is another step towards making medical facilities energy independent and ensuring the uninterrupted provision of medical services," the statement said.

The project was initiated and implemented by the RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation.

Rubryka reported that Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko announced that autonomous solar power plants would be installed in Kyiv for uninterrupted power supply to the city's hospitals.

The Ukrainian charity Energy Act For Ukraine Foundation is installing hybrid solar systems in Chernihiv Regional Children's Hospital and Ivankiv Central District Hospital.
