US to provide $1.3 bln aid package to Ukraine

On Wednesday, July 19, the US Department of Defense announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine with a total cost of 1.3 billion dollars.

The Pentagon reported this.

The US is giving out the new aid package via the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which supplies equipment from different businesses instead of taking it from the US military's reserves.

The package primarily includes:

  • four NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems and ammunition for them,
  • 152 mm artillery shells,
  • TOW anti-tank missiles,
  • and high-precision aviation ammunition.

Previously mentioned Phoenix Ghost and Switchblade drones, as well as anti-UAV and electronic warfare tools, will be also trasferred.

In addition, the United States will purchase for Ukraine 150 fuel tankers, 115 tactical vehicles for towing and transporting equipment, 50 tactical vehicles for evacuating equipment, equipment for protecting ports and harbors and demining, and tactical secure communication systems.

For reference:

The previous package of military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 800 million dollars was announced by the United States on July 7. It included cluster ammunition for the first time, designed to help temporarily compensate for the shortage of artillery shells.

Until the latest announcement, the total amount of American military aid to Kyiv since February 2022 amounted to more than $41.3 billion.
