City of Nizhyn, Chernihiv region, to receive two solar power plants from German fund GIZ for energy efficiency pilot project

In Nizhyn, Chernihiv region, the local authorities plan to install two solar power plants for 100,000 euros each.

What is the problem?

Rubryka wrote that during the 500 days of the full–scale war, Russian shelling caused damage to half of Ukraine's entire energy sector; so far, 271 hits to energy facilities have been confirmed.

So, communities are preparing for the winter and looking at ways to heat up cities and towns while keeping the national energy system from overloading.

What is the solution?

Nizhyn made it to the finals of a pilot project on energy efficiency funded by the German International Cooperation GIZ.

Solar power plants will be placed on buildings:

• maternity hospital,
• of the utility company "Nizhyn Water Supply and Sewerage Management."

How does it work?

"Our city has chosen the project of installing a solar power plant at the water intake of the Communal enterprise "Nizhyn Water Supply and Sewerage Management" with a capacity of 130 kW. The total budget of the project is 100,000 euros. 90,000 euros have already been received," said the mayor of Nizhyn.

According to Kodola, this company was chosen due to the fact that it consumes large amounts of electricity during the operation of pumping stations.

"We're in the process of creating the project and estimate documentation. Thanks to this project's implementation, the station can produce 152,000 kW of electricity each year, which will lessen the cost of energy carriers for the utility company. We hope to get the power station running by the end of 2023," Oleksandr, the head of the city, shared.

In addition, the Nizhyn community participated in the "Yellow-Blue Power" Foundation project to improve the energy security of social infrastructure. It provides for the installation of solar power plants in hospitals.

In Nizhyn, a maternity hospital was chosen to install such a station.

"The preliminary budget for implementing this project is 100,000 euros, of which 10 is a subsidy from the city budget, and the rest is from the Fund. We are currently on the way to signing contracts. Equipping the hospital with solar panels will cover 40% of energy consumption needs," said the mayor of Nizhyn.

Over the last few weeks, 345 tons of energy equipment from the Netherlands, Poland, Finland, Norway, and Sweden have arrived in Ukraine.

Also, a solar power plant was installed in the Dubno City hospital in the Rivne region. It has already produced the first kilowatts.
