Zelensky invites South Korea to join G7 security guarantees for Ukraine
Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky invited South Korea to join the G7 security guarantees for Ukraine.
The head of state stated this during a press conference with the president of South Korea.
"I invited the Republic of Korea to join the declaration of support for Ukraine agreed with the leaders of the Group of Seven," Zelensky emphasized.
In addition, the two presidents announced at the press conference that South Korea provides Ukraine with the following:
- humanitarian aid, in particular in demining,
- economic and international support.
Leader Yoon Seok Yeol noted that his country supports the Ukrainian peace formula and seeks to help in its implementation.
In turn, the President of the Ukrainian state invited South Korea to join the creation of rehabilitation centers.
"In the field of rehabilitation, we need a new large-scale rehabilitation industry. I invited the Republic of Korea to show its leadership in creating rehabilitation centers in Ukraine. Of course, we discussed economic cooperation. This includes energy, transport, railways, and creating enterprises in Ukraine," added Zelensky.
Also, the president of South Korea emphasized that Seoul will join the post-war reconstruction program of Ukraine. The country is already helping in the reconstruction of damaged Ukrainian schools.
It should be noted that on July 15, the President of South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol and his first lady Kim Keon Hee arrived in Ukraine with an unannounced visit.
This is the first visit of the leader of South Korea to Ukraine in the history of bilateral relations.
Yoon Seok Yeol also visited Bucha and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky. After the negotiations, they gave a joint press conference.
For reference:
It should be noted that, on July 13, Poland and South Korea agreed on participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine and signed a memorandum on cooperation in the field of post-war reconstruction.
As Rubryka wrote, at the end of May, the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea signed a Memorandum on strengthening cooperation in the field of reconstruction of Ukraine.
During a meeting with high-ranking officials and business representatives of the Republic of Korea, the Deputy Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine, Oleksandra Azarkhina, presented the critical priorities of recovery for 2023.
In addition, South Korea recently provided non-lethal aid to Ukraine, which is fighting against Russian aggression.
Moreover, Ukraine will receive a "smart city" development platform from South Korea.
Even though South Korea is a major arms exporter, the country has so far ruled out the possibility of sending lethal weapons to Ukraine, limiting itself to non-lethal aid.
