Ukrainian cartoon "Mavka. Forest Song" wins Cartoon Club Award for Environment at Italian festival

The cartoon "Mavka. Forest Song" won the Cartoon Club Award for the Environment at the festival in Italy.

The director of the cartoon Oleh Malomuzh announced this on Facebook.

It is noted that the Ukrainian "Mavka" received the Cartoon Club Award for the Environment from one of the most famous animation festivals in Italy.

For nearly four decades, one of Italy's renowned animation fests has awarded this prize to many animated movies from all over the globe that vie for it annually.

"Hundreds of animated films apply for the Cartoon Club award every year, so winning first place in one of the categories is a great honor and pride for our team," the director said.

The festival will last until July 16. As his team reported, on July 13 at 7:00 p.m., the festival featured a screening of a Ukrainian cartoon in an open-air arena in the historic center of Rimini.

The Cartoon Club Award festival is dedicated to animated films created by professional directors and Italian and foreign production companies. The festival is a significant overview of industry trends, advancements in animation technology, and topics that artists feel need to be covered in their films.

The cartoon "Mavka. Forest Song" was created based on Lesia Ukrainka's "Forest Song" and adapted to the genre of family animation. The cartoon is also based on images from Slavic myths and legends.

According to the story, Mavka, the Soul of the Forest and its protector, falls head over heels for the talented musician Lukash and must make a tough decision: should she choose love or stick to her responsibility to the Forest?

The budget of the cartoon is 187 million hryvnias.

The share of state participation in the production of the cartoon is 49.5 million hryvnias.

The production of the cartoon was announced back in 2015. The cartoon was released in Ukrainian cinemas on March 2, 2023.

It should be noted that during four days of rental in Italy and the Netherlands, the cartoon "Mavka. Forest Song" collected almost €350,000 in four days.

In addition, the cartoon "Mavka. Forest Song" became the highest-grossing Ukrainian film. In three weekends, the cartoon collected 81,848,415 hryvnias.

642,671 viewers watched it.

Note that in May, the animated film "Mavka. Forest Song" was released in Ukrainian on the USA and Canada big screens.
