European Commission President: Ukraine is making rapid progress towards EU membership

If Ukraine maintains the current pace of reforms, it will be able to quickly achieve success in joining the European Union.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated this, the European Pravda reports.

The European Commission President also arrived at the NATO summit in Vilnius. Von der Leyen noted that, as the EC president, she could not comment on Ukraine's membership in NATO. However, she said Kyiv's success was on the way to EU membership.

"The speed with which Ukraine is moving towards EU membership is impressive. It is a merit-based process, and the enthusiasm and intensity with which Ukraine is reforming is rapidly moving it closer to EU membership," she stressed. "I'm sure that success will come soon if they continue like this and keep up the speed. This is an excellent example of how you can quickly move towards EU membership if you meet the requirements."

The president of the European Commission believes that the members of the North Atlantic Alliance can provide Ukraine with several security guarantees, providing the country with the necessary weapons before it joins NATO.

On the 500th day of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ursula von der Leyen assured the EU would continue supporting Kyiv.
