Russian forces bomb humanitarian aid distribution site in Zaporizhzhia region: civilians killed and wounded
The Russian forces dropped an aerial bomb on the site where humanitarian aid was distributed in Orikhiv, Ukraine's southeastern Zaporizhzhia region.
The head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, Yurii Malashko, reported on the Telegram messaging app that four people were killed and another 11 were injured.
"The rascists committed a war crime in the front-line town of Orikhiv. They dropped a guided aerial bomb when humanitarian aid was being distributed in a residential quarter. Four people died on the spot: three women aged 43, 45, and 47 and a 47-year-old man," the statement reads.
Eleven townspeople were hospitalized with injuries. According to the regional police, more than a dozen townspeople were trapped under the rubble.
"The Russians carried out a targeted airstrike at a time when the townspeople came to the school to receive humanitarian aid — food and necessities," the police said. "More than one dozen and a half people inside and nearby have been trapped under the rubble of the destroyed institution. Residential buildings were also damaged, including civil infrastructure near the explosion's epicenter."
Law enforcement officers, rescuers, civilian and military medics, and caring citizens who joined in clearing the debris have worked at the scene. Rescue operations are currently ongoing. Sappers determine the type of ammunition used on the civilian population. The police continue to collect evidence of a war crime.
The event was included in the register according to the legal qualification, Art. 438 (Violation of laws and customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Later, it became known that the number of people injured by the Russian airstrike in Orikhiv, Zaporizhzhia region, increased to 13.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, on July 9, around 1:20 p.m., the Russian military targeted a civilian infrastructure object during an airstrike on Orikhiv. Four people died, and 13 more were injured. Data on the victims are being clarified.
Under the procedural leadership of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation was started in criminal proceedings on the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
During the last 24 hours, the Russian forces carried out 36 targeted attacks on ten peaceful settlements of the Zaporizhzhia region: five attacks on Levadne and Novodarivka with air defense missiles, 30 artillery attacks on Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Novodanilivka, Olhivske, Chervone, Malynyvka. In Novodanilivka, a 65-year-old man was injured and received medical assistance. So far, the destruction of ten civilian objects has been recorded.
