Kherson region initiates water cleaning project to combat consequences of flooding

Volunteers implement a unique eco-cleaning project in Ukraine's southern Kherson region.

What is the problem?

As Rubryka reported, on the night of June 6, Russian invaders blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, located a few kilometers from the temporarily occupied city of Nova Kakhovka, Kherson region, that led to massive flooding.

Because of Russia's destruction of the Kakhovka dam, Kherson was threatened by an ecological disaster. The great water brought tens of thousands of tons of garbage and silt to the city's streets.

What is the solution?

Crews pump water out of homes and other facilities and clean, dry, and disinfect buildings, tackling the consequences of flooding.

How does it work?

The workers carried out the pumping at more than 700 objects, removing more than 9,000 tons of garbage.

Volunteers pumped 816 tons of environmentally contaminated liquid from Shipbuilders' Square in the Korabel micro-district. All this liquid was poured into special treatment facilities of the Khersonvodokanal local water supply operator.

All work for the community and residents is free, thanks to the support of many City of Power public organization partners.

Representatives of the NGO City of Power, the NGO Oleshshia, and the international organization Lifting Hands International are helping rescuers and utility workers overcome the consequences of flooding.
