Ukraine’s Volyn region joins Side by Side reconstruction project to restore Blahodativka in Kherson region

Volyn authorities pledged to restore the town of Blahodativka in the Kherson region via the Side by Side reconstruction project.

Previously, the western Rivne region joined the project, aiming to restore another liberated town in the Kherson region which was destroyed by Russian hostilities.

What is the problem?

Kherson region is recognized as one of the most war-battered regions in Ukraine. After the liberation of Kherson and parts of the region up to the Dnipro River, settlements are still subject to shelling every day.

The situation got drastically worse on the night of June 6, when Russian invaders blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant.

Around 32 oil refineries, gas stations, thermal power plants, and various warehouses were flooded in the Kherson region due to the destruction of the Kakhovka dam.

As a result of the explosion, the Beryslav district of the Kherson region went underwater, with 70 houses being flooded, including the village of Blahodativka.

In the village, home to 268 people, 93 residential buildings and one paramedic and obstetric station were damaged.

What is the solution?

Volyn region decided to rebuild houses in the village as part of the Side by Side project.

How does it work?

First of all, we plan to carry out repairs to the buildings, where possible, so that people can live there as soon as possible, local authorities say.

The Volyn military administration is currently working on the issue of restoring the largest town's street.

The Side by Side project was created to help the regions of Ukraine restore de-occupied and affected communities from Russian aggression.

Kherson region, as one of the most war-battered regions, has been taken as a pilot site to work on. So far, 15 regions of Ukraine will join the restoration campaign of communities in the Kherson region.
