Solutions to win: Ukraine streamlines donated blood supply to front
The Ministry of Health has developed a new algorithm for supplying the front with donated blood. The Cabinet of Ministers approved it.
Rubryka informs about this.
What is the problem?
The Ministry of Health reports that more than 60% of preventable deaths on the battlefield are related to blood loss. Timely transfusion of whole blood or its components can significantly reduce this percentage, saving time for transporting the wounded to the nearest hospital.
What is the solution?
The Cabinet of Ministers approved a new algorithm for supplying the front with donated blood developed by the Ministry of Health.
How does it work?
The ministry says that now medical units will receive donated blood and its components "without unnecessary bureaucracy and suboptimally organized procedures." Moreover, the requests of combat units for the necessary blood volumes will be considered.
This will allow timely preparation and delivery of blood to the combat zone.
From now on, each medical unit must identify a person responsible for ordering donated blood and its components. Military medics will be able to decide for themselves how it is more convenient for them to order blood – from the brigade or individual medical units.
Regional coordinators of the supporting subject of the blood system will ensure the receipt, transportation, and distribution of donor blood and its components in accordance with applications.
"In fact, the task of the units is reduced to the formation of applications and reports, in which the responsible persons of the medical units fill in the minimum necessary information," the Ministry of Health emphasizes.
In addition, the government resolution approved the algorithm of actions of medical units in the event of a mass influx of wounded. Yes, doctors can take the necessary amount of donor blood and its components from an auxiliary temporary blood bank, the location of which will be known only to them.

It should be noted that in the capital, on the basis of the Kyiv city center, the first long-term storage bank of erythrocytes was created in Ukraine.
Also, since March 6, the Kyiv City Blood Center field teams have been working in the capital.
