Scholz praises Ukraine’s “clear, well-organized” counteroffensive

Germany is ready to continue supporting Ukraine in every possible way.

Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced this to the members of the Bundestag on Wednesday, Ukrinform reports.

"No one knows how long the war will last… We must be ready to support Ukraine as much as it will be needed: financially, by providing humanitarian aid, but also with military equipment. It must be financed," said Scholz.

He added that such assistance needs financing. Therefore, the budget of the Federal Republic of Germany provides money.

The head of the German government stated that the security architecture of Europe was under immediate threat due to the aggressive Russian war. The politician called it the biggest challenge.

Consequently, the Chancellor elucidated, Germany is heightening its contributions to the Bundeswehr to augment its state and NATO's defensive capacities. He specified that both national safety and the Alliance's security are becoming increasingly crucial.

The day before, Scholz told journalists about the need to deepen cooperation between NATO and Ukraine but repeated that "no one can become a member of the defense alliance during the war; besides, one of the criteria for membership in NATO is the absence of open border conflicts."

Commenting on the pace of the Ukrainian offensive, the German politician noted that it could not be expected that it would be rapid.

"If you carefully observe what is happening, you can see that the operations planned by the Ukrainian defense are very purposeful. Therefore, everything has been very clear and well organized so far," the chancellor said.

According to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Ukraine will receive Leopard 1A5 tanks from Germany and Denmark as part of military aid in the coming weeks.
