President Volodymyr Zelensky warned Russia in his video address that the world is seeing what scenarios terrorists are preparing for.
"Now, our intelligence reports that on the roof of several Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant's power units, the Russian military placed objects similar to explosives, perhaps to simulate an attack on the plant," Zelensky emphasized. "Maybe they have some other script, but in any case, the world sees — and cannot help but see! — that the only source of danger for the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant is Russia and no one else."
The Ukrainian leader stressed that now the entire world should realize that common security depends entirely on global attention to the actions of the Russian occupiers at the plant.
"Russia should be aware: the world sees what scenarios terrorists are preparing for, and the world is ready to react," the president said.
At the same time, Zelensky noted that, unfortunately, there was no timely and large-scale reaction to the Russian terrorist attack against the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, and this can inspire the aggressor country to a new evil.
"Stopping it is the duty of everyone in the world. No one can stand aside because radiation does not leave anyone aside," Zelensky emphasized.
What preceded this
The Armed Forces of Ukraine officially warned about the possible Russian provocation on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant territory, which Russian terrorists have occupied since March 4, 2022. Explosive-like objects were placed on the roofs of two power units. It became known that Russian mobile radiation laboratories were spotted in the temporarily occupied Enerhodar and Mariupol.
In turn, the Ministry of Health appealed to Ukrainians that in the event of an explosion at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), residents of the potential radiation accident zone should be prepared for possible evacuation.
On June 30, the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian contingent was gradually leaving the territory of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Oleksii Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, said that Ukraine is carefully preparing for any scenario surrounding the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
At the end of June 2023, Ukraine held large-scale training of emergency services in regions closest to the Zaporizhzhia plant, namely the southern Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, and central Dnipropetrovsk region, to prepare rescuers to deal with the consequences of a possible terrorist attack at the ZNPP.
