Russia has shifted focus on attacking energy infrastructure to oil and gas production, government buildings – Ukraine's General Staff
Russian troops have slightly changed the priority of shelling targets, ceasing to concentrate on energy infrastructure objects.
Instead, they are trying to hit the objects of the oil and gas production industry, places of concentration of forces and means of Ukraine's armed forces, government buildings, Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Brigadier General Oleksiy Hromov said in an interview with Ukrinform.
"Despite the losses suffered by the enemy's tactical and army aviation (as of July 3, 2023, the Ukrainian army destroyed 309 helicopters and 315 airplanes), the enemy continues to use the tactics of launching missile strikes with shorter intervals between strikes and fewer strikes instead of massive strikes. Probably in order to overload our air defense system, the enemy is combining missile weapons with attack UAVs," the brigadier general said.
At the same time, Hromov noted that the Russians stopped concentrating their efforts on energy infrastructure objects (although they did not completely abandon this goal and periodically tried to strike such targets, primarily on power substations of various capacities) and changed the priority of the goals.
"At the moment, the enemy is trying to hit objects of the oil and gas production industry, probable places of concentration of forces and means of Ukraine's armed forces, as well as – buildings of government bodies – both with the use of Shahed-136-type kamikaze UAVs and missiles of various types," he added he.
For reference:
As reported, the Russian military-industrial complex is capable of producing about 100 missiles per month.
In recent weeks, 345 tons of energy equipment arrived in Ukraine from the Netherlands, Poland, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, according to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
Since March 2022, Ukraine has received more than 8,000 tons of humanitarian equipment from 31 countries.
Ukraine is also preparing for possible strikes on power plants in the fall since the Russians continue to produce missiles, and their previous campaign to destroy the Ukrainian energy industry did not achieve its goal.
Moreover, the new UNDP report indicates the continued vulnerability of the Ukrainian energy sector.
