Ukrainian forces make gains on southern front
Russian troops lost almost three companies killed and wounded in a day.
General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of the Tavria operational-strategic grouping of troops, reported on the Telegram messaging app that 34 units of Russian military equipment and 12 ammunition depots were destroyed.
"On the Tavria direction, the Defense Forces continue to advance. Units of rocket troops and artillery fired 1,389 fire missions during the day. Over the last day, the enemy's losses in killed and wounded amounted to almost three companies," the statement reads.
According to him, the destroyed Russian military equipment includes a Ka-52 helicopter, four tanks, the IFVs, two D-30 guns, BM-21 Grad, two Supercam UAVs, Zala UAVs, 2A36 Hyacinth-B gun, Strila-10 anti-aircraft missile complex, two Msta-B howitzers, and automobile equipment.
"Also, 12 enemy ammunition depots were destroyed," Tarnavskyi said.
Background
Over the past month, Ukrainian defenders have intensified offensive actions on the Melitopol, Berdiansk, and Bakhmut fronts. The Armed Forces liberated eight settlements in the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions.
Recently, a video showed how Ukrainian soldiers raised the Ukrainian flag on the Kurdiumivka dam near Bakhmut.
It was reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine returned more territory during the counteroffensive than Russia captured during the winter offensive, British Defense Minister Ben Wallace.
During a telephone conversation with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, General Mark Milley, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, said that the Ukrainian forces managed to intercept the strategic initiative.
