Serbian President expects attack from Kosovo during Ukraine's counteroffensive
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić believes that Ukrainian forces will launch a new attack in the coming days as part of a counteroffensive, and he expects an "attack on Serbs" in Kosovo.
The Serbian president noted that Ukrainians "have prepared dozens of brigades that will seriously break through the Russian lines, Politika reports.
He emphasized that when he says this, he is not rooting for Ukrainians but saying what he thinks. Ukraine expects to change the course of the war before the summit in Vilnius on July 12, he says.
When it starts, and I expect it to start tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, in the coming days, then you will see an additional attack on Kosovo and Metohija. Therefore, I ask Serbs to be careful, and anyone who thinks these inhumans can attack them – to hide…
I am afraid that this terror will become even more fierce, he [Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti – ed.] imagined himself as Zelensky, a new Greater Albanian leader who will unite all Albanian countries and do a great job, Vučić said.
Tensions in the north of Kosovo, as well as in relations between Belgrade and Pristina, have deteriorated in recent months. There has been an outbreak of violence over local elections, which the Serbian majority boycotted and whose results were not recognized.
The US and the EU have called on Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti to recall the elected mayors and disband the special police units that were used to suppress Serb protests, or else there will be consequences.
The Kosovo authorities have called for an increase in the number of NATO troops in the partially recognized state amid another escalation of the conflict with Serbia.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić assured in March that he "will not sign any agreement" with Kosovo, despite the fact that he agreed to the European Union's plan to normalize relations.
