Kakhovka dam explosion: 18 more settlements remain flooded in Ukraine's Kherson region
According to Ukraine's State Emergency Service, 18 settlements remain flooded after the Russian occupiers blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant in the Kherson region.
Since the beginning of the rescue operation, 2,332 citizens have requested help and evacuation.
As of the morning of June 29, one settlement on the right bank of the Dnipro River and 17 settlements in the temporarily occupied territory remain flooded," the report says.
Work on pumping out water is still undergoing. Over the past day, 66.5 thousand tons of water were pumped out of 22 basements, and since the beginning of the operation, over 439 thousand tons of water have been pumped out of 945 houses and basements.
Rescuers delivered 47 tons of water, including 36 tons of drinking and 11 tons of technical water. Since the beginning of the operation, 904 tons of water have been sent to citizens, including 611 tons of drinking water.
On the night of June 6, Russian invaders blew up the Kakhovka dam, located a few kilometers from the temporarily occupied town of Nova Kakhovka in the Kherson region.
The polluted Dnipro waters reached the Black Sea the day after the explosion.
Oil refineries, gas stations, thermal power plants, and various warehouses were flooded in the Kherson region due to the destruction of the Kakhovka dam.
According to preliminary information, about 150 tons of motor oil leaked into the water in the first days of the disaster.
Various diseases were detected in water samples taken near the port. Salmonella and an intestinal infection were also detected in the Black Sea in the Odesa region.
The epidemiological situation in the Kherson region after the Russians blew up the Kakhovka dam and flooded settlements is stable, with no cases of infectious disease outbreaks detected.
