Support of US arming Ukraine has increased by 20% among Americans – Reuters/Ipsos poll
A vast majority of US citizens support military assistance to Ukraine to stand against the full-scale war, believing that the US is showing its willingness to protect its own and allied interests from China and other adversaries.
The new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows a "sharp rise" in supporting arming Ukraine, with 65% of the respondents approving of the shipments compared with 46% in a May poll.
81% of Democrats, 56% of Republicans, and 57% of independents favor the transfer of US weapons to Ukraine.
According to the poll, 76% of Americans believe that providing assistance to Ukraine demonstrates to China and other rivals that the United States has "the will and ability to defend our interests, our allies, and ourselves."
Majorities of Americans, 67% and 73%, are more likely to support a candidate in next year's US presidential election who will continue military aid to Ukraine and one who backs the NATO alliance.
The poll was conducted a few days after the head of Wagner PMC Yevgenii Prigozhin launched and then called off a mutiny over criticism of the Russian military leadership.
The survey covered 1,004 adult respondents across the United States, including 400 Democrats and 383 Republican supporters. The margin of error is about 4% in both directions.
The day before, the US announced another $500 million package of military aid to Ukraine, including armored vehicles and additional ammunition for the Patriot and HIMARS systems. The total amount of military assistance since February 2022 has already exceeded $40.5 billion.
