EU backs Cultural Mosaic Art Open Air in Kyiv to showcase resilient Ukrainian heritage amid war

On July 8, 2023, the Cultural Mosaic Art Open Air will be held in the Lavra Art Gallery in Kyiv.

Kyiv will host the event with the support of the European Union, Rubryka reports.

What is the problem?

The European Union considers Ukrainian cultural heritage an integral part of the European and world treasury. It supports Ukrainians in preserving its legacy in all its richness and diversity.

It is equally essential to allow Ukrainian artists, even in the conditions of war, so that they continue to create and develop Ukrainian culture, introduce it to a foreign audience, and convey the truth about the war and the desired peace in Ukraine.

What is the solution?

This is the critical public event of the "Together we create. Together we preserve" communication campaign, which informs Ukrainians about the European Union's support of Ukrainian culture and art during a full-scale war.

The event will bring together artists, the public sector, creative industries, and volunteers, who, with the support of the EU, create new works and collaborations to develop and preserve Ukrainian cultural heritage and present national heritage in a world that is rediscovering Ukrainian culture, sustainable and robust even in times of war.

How does it work?

Along with military, financial, and humanitarian aid, the EU provides vital assistance to Ukrainian culture, thanks to which museum collections were secured, evacuated, and preserved, and exhibits and architectural monuments under threat of destruction or theft due to the large-scale Russian war were digitized. 

Ukrainian cultural figures will be able to find out and see what has been achieved thanks to the support of the European Union at the thematic plein air "Cultural Mosaic" on July 8, 2023, on the territory of the Lavra Gallery in Kyiv.

Visitors can communicate with Ukrainian artists and representatives of EU cultural projects and programs. Guests will have the opportunity to see the exhibition of the works of the finalists of the art competition, master the basics of crafts, watch documentaries,

flip through books to learn many interesting and little-known facts about the life of Ukrainian culture during the war and about the support provided to them by the European Union.

The event will take place at the address: Lavra Gallery, 7 Lavrskyi Lane, Kyiv. Date: July 8, 2023, 12:00 – 20:00. Free entrance.

As Rubryka reported, proper documentation of damage and destruction of objects of Ukraine's cultural heritage and cultural infrastructure is essential to draw attention to the Russian Federation's crimes against Ukraine and bring it to international legal responsibility.

According to the Ministry of Culture, from February 24, 2022, to May 15, 2023, 623 immovable objects of cultural heritage were damaged or destroyed. Of them, 80 are national importance, and 484 are of local significance.
