Solutions to win: Ukraine to produce machines for demining

Western-style robotic systems for demining will be manufactured in Ukraine.

What is the problem?

After the Russian attack, Ukraine became one of the largest minefields in the world: almost 180,000 square kilometers – about a third of the territory – were contaminated with explosive objects.

Kyiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Donbas regions are the most mined, according to the data of the State Emergency Service. It will take at least ten years to clear these areas.

Ukraine lacks both sappers and the appropriate equipment.

What is the solution?

The department notes that it has signed the relevant Memoranda with the following:

• the Croatian corporation "DOK-ING d.o.o.",
• the Danish manufacturer HYDREMA.

How does it work?

In particular, the Ukrainian business will produce equipment components for Hydrema, which will be supplied to the domestic market and exported to other countries.

Localization of the production of demining machines will allow:

• promptly solve the issue of current service,
• repair of equipment,
• quick supply of necessary components.

And this will contribute to solving one of today's key tasks:

• demining the territory of Ukraine,
• return the land to economic exploitation.

"Ukraine will become a leading platform for producing and testing the latest demining equipment. And we have significant professional and technical potential to achieve success in this area," the message emphasized.

For reference:

It should be noted that Switzerland has allocated a package of aid to Ukraine to demine territories. For this purpose, the country will provide a remote-controlled machine and train specialists.

The Swedish Emergency Situations Agency (MSB) will send 250 mine detectors to Ukraine to help secure areas affected by flooding following the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam.
