Solutions to win: Ukraine to issue licenses for drone ammunition production to private companies

The Ministry of Digital Transformation and state authorities intend to allow Ukrainian companies to obtain licenses for the production of ammunition for drones.

The Deputy Prime Minister for Innovations, Development of Education, Science, and Technologies, Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, reported that to Ukrinform.

What is the problem?

"We are trying to focus as much as possible on the production of drones and simplify bureaucratic procedures for manufacturers. We have launched a regulation allowing companies to obtain licenses to produce ammunition for UAVs. The market is beginning to expand, and the number of drones is increasing, so it is necessary to increase the amount of ammunition they can use," said the government official.

What is the solution?

Fedorov clarified that currently, the Ministry of Digital Transformation team is cooperating in this direction with the Ministry of Strategic Industries representatives.

How does it work?

"The market for the production of drones is growing exponentially. Now there are already dozens of companies that are ready for contracting. It is necessary to continue to promote its maximum development. We expect the government to support the relevant resolution in the coming weeks," Fedorov added.

It should be noted that for more than 11 months of the existence of the Army of Drones project, 3,864 UAV complexes were purchased with the funds of United24. The sum of concluded contracts is more than 4.3 billion hryvnias.

Also, UAV Operator Training Centers have taught 10,000 military personnel to operate drones for ten months.

For reference:

"The Drone Army was a lot for which funds were collected from all over the world. And it turned into a large state program to increase funding for Ukrainian and foreign manufacturers of UAVs," says the minister.

According to the head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the process of scaling UAV production in Ukraine is taking place. In addition to the UNITED24 platform, in December 2022, a Special Coordinating Council on Mass Drone Production was established. Its representatives consulted with manufacturers about the possibilities of expanding their activities. "We gathered 80 manufacturers and asked them what capabilities and "blockers" they have for development," Fedorov said. Also, according to him, they asked the military what kind of drones they needed and in what quantity.

The government and parliament have increased funding for this program and changed the regulatory framework to remove red tape that hinders producers. The minister noted that removing obstacles related to the importation of components for drones into the country was possible.
