Kakhovka dam destruction: 45 settlements remain flooded in Kherson region
54 settlements in Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, and Mykolaiv regions remain flooded after Russian invaders blew up the Kakhovka HPP.
These are three main regions where our forces and means are deployed to eliminate this emergency situation, rescuers report.
"As of 08:00 on June 17, a gradual decrease in the water level is observed on the Dnipro River near the Kherson post and is at the level of 1.09 m. 11 settlements (1,509 houses) on the right bank of the Dnipro River remain submerged and 17 settlements in the temporarily occupied territory," the press service emphasized.
As reported, rescuers and volunteers evacuated nearly 3,000 residents of the Kherson region.
Rescuers and volunteers rescued 716 people, including 30 children and 40 people with reduced mobility. In addition, psychological assistance was provided to 401 people.
At this time, 14 evacuation points were deployed in the region.
"More than 22,000 tons of water were pumped out of 88 houses and basements, and 68 motorized pumps were involved. Since the beginning of the works, more than 59,000 tons of water have been pumped out of 245 houses and basements. 49 tons of water were delivered, of which 36 tons were drinking water, and 4,495 kg of food and basic necessities," the rescuers said.
As Rubryka reported, on the night of June 6, Russian invaders blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. Ukrhydroenergo facility stated that it was completely destroyed and cannot be restored.
The explosion flooded 32 oil refineries, gas stations, thermal power plants, and various warehouses, causing about 150 tons of engine oil to leak into the water in the first days of the disaster.
