Ukrainian soldiers are trying to help residents of occupied left bank of Kherson region evacuate – AFU spokesperson

Natalia Humeniuk, the joint press center chief at the Ukrainian army's South Operational Command

The evacuation of people on the left bank of the Kherson region after the Russians blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant was very difficult. Despite the risks, Ukraine's Defense Forces are trying to help people.

Natalia Humeniuk, joint coordination press center chief of the Defense Forces of South of Ukraine, said this at a Ukrinform briefing.

"There is a very complicated evacuation process. The President appealed to international organizations that should join in influencing the occupying power and the occupying forces to organize the urgent rescue of those trapped in the water," Humeniuk said. "However, there are cases like the one when we saw the rescue of a family from Oleshky, who received help from the Defense Forces even at the risk of passing through the 'grey zone.'"

She said it was inappropriate to reveal the details of this rescue operation of the family from the city of Oleshky in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region to the National Police of Ukraine because many people remain there under fire.

According to her, it is possible to carry out similar operations, and people must be safe.

Background

As Rubryka reported, on the night of June 6, Russian invaders blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, located a few kilometers from the temporarily occupied city of Nova Kakhovka, Ukraine's southern Kherson region.

We will remind you that three people have already died due to flooding in the temporarily occupied Oleshky on the left bank of the Kherson region,

The Rubryka correspondent also reported that the Russians were shooting at people trying to evacuate in the flooded left-bank Kherson region.

On June 8, employees of the National Police of Ukraine managed to evacuate a woman and two children who were pleading for rescue on the roof of a flooded house from the city of Oleshky in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that the Russian occupiers ultimately failed the evacuation on the left bank of the Kherson region. Ukraine will turn to international organizations on this matter.
