President Erdoğan stated that a commission with the participation of experts from both sides could be created for a detailed investigation of the explosion at the Kakhovka HPP. He stressed it is also necessary to involve the UN and the international community, including Turkey.
Erdogan said that Turkey is ready to do everything possible in this regard. The Turkish leader expressed hope that in this matter, it is possible to follow the method of negotiations as with the "grain initiative".
Within the framework of the "grain agreement," Ukraine does not conduct direct negotiations with Russia. The state is discussing issues with Turkey and the UN, and they, in turn, are conducting separate negotiations with Russia's side.
Turkey's urge to promote peace talks between Ukraine and Russia
At the end of May, the mass media reported that Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin might come to Turkey after Erdogan's inauguration, which took place on June 3-4.
Putin would be the first to visit Ankara since 2020. The Kremlin also confirmed that the dictator and Erdogan agreed on a meeting.
Russia's destruction of Ukraine's Kakhovka dam
On the night of June 6, Russian occupation forces had blown up the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP). The dam and the power plant's turbine hall were completely destroyed. As a result of the destruction of the dam, the water in the Kakhovka reservoir began to fall rapidly, threatening to flood nearby southern regions.
