Solutions to win: Lithuania to send aid to Ukraine after Kakhovka dam destruction
Lithuania has announced to send humanitarian aid to Ukraine in response to the explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station in the Kherson region.
Lithuania plans to provide Ukraine with 30 tents, 240 folding beds, and financial aid of 50,000 euros.
We understand that this is a very challenging situation, and we must do everything possible to help our friends and brothers in Ukraine, LRT cites Agnė Bilotaitė, Lithuanian Minister of Internal Affairs.
The state is also preparing for a possible new flow of refugees from Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden previously expressed a firm readiness to provide the necessary assistance to Ukraine following the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP by Russians.
Russia's destruction of the Kakhovka HPP
On the night of June 6, the Russian occupation forces had blown up the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP). Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Oblast Military Administration, noted that they had started the evacuation of the local population from dangerous areas.
As a result of the destruction of the dam, the water in the Kakhovka reservoir began to fall rapidly, threatening to flood.
On June 6, it became known that 24 settlements have already been flooded, and water will continue to arrive during the day.
Residents continue to save themselves from the high water in Kherson and take out their stores, and residents of coastal communities leave their already flooded houses.
